Tell us about Black Capital?

Black Capital Group is a UK-based parent holding organisation that brings together three sister companies: Compliance Chain, Strategic Resourcing, and Procure Partnerships Framework. Together, the group supports the construction and procurement sector through complementary services that focus on compliance, recruitment, and public sector framework delivery.

What motivated your business to take on a Business Administrator apprentice?

We wanted to invest in emerging talent and bring someone into the business who could develop alongside us. As a growing group of businesses, strong administration is essential to keeping teams organised, maintaining consistency, and supporting day-to-day operations effectively.

Why did you introduce apprenticeships into your recruitment strategy?

Apprenticeships gave us an opportunity to build talent from the ground up while creating a sustainable recruitment pipeline. It allows us to bring in motivated individuals, develop them in line with our business needs, and support long-term progression.

How did you decide which apprenticeship programme was right for Black Capital?

We looked at where we needed the most practical support and identified administration as a key area. The Business Administrator apprenticeship was the best fit because it provides a strong foundation in organisation, communication, systems, and process management, all of which are valuable across our group.

What has your overall experience been like working with an apprentice?

Our overall experience has been very positive. Having an apprentice in the business has brought fresh energy, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn, and it has been rewarding to support their development while also seeing the value they add to the team.

What qualities or strengths has your apprentice brought to the workplace?

Our apprentice has brought a proactive attitude, strong attention to detail, and a real willingness to take on new tasks. They’ve also shown adaptability and a positive approach, which is important in a fast-paced working environment.

What tangible benefits have you seen since hiring a Business Administrator apprentice at Black Capital?

We’ve seen improvements in organisation, administrative efficiency, and team capacity. Having additional support in key administrative areas has helped free up time for other colleagues to focus on more strategic or specialist responsibilities.

How has the apprentice contributed to your team’s productivity or performance?

The apprentice has supported the team by helping to manage day-to-day administrative tasks, keeping processes organised, and assisting with workflow coordination. That has helped improve efficiency and allowed the wider team to work more productively.

Has taking on an apprentice helped address any skills gaps within Black Capital?

Yes, it has helped strengthen our administrative support function and build capability in an area that is important to the smooth running of the business. It has also allowed us to develop skills internally in a way that matches how we operate.

What is the biggest project your Business Administrator apprentice has worked on?

One of the biggest projects our apprentice has supported has been helping coordinate key administrative processes across the business, ensuring information is organised, tasks are tracked effectively, and teams are supported in delivering against deadlines.

What aspects of the programme have been most valuable to your business, and what did you get out of the apprenticeship process?

The most valuable aspect has been the combination of structured learning and practical experience. It means our apprentice is developing knowledge they can apply straight away in the workplace, while we benefit from having someone who is growing into the role with a clear understanding of our business.

What advice would you give to other employers considering hiring an apprentice?

Give them meaningful responsibility, invest time in mentoring them, and view the apprenticeship as a long-term investment rather than a short-term solution. With the right support, an apprentice can make a real contribution to the business while developing into a valuable team member.

The benefits of hiring an apprentice

Black Capital Group’s experience shows how a Business Administrator apprenticeship can strengthen a growing business from the inside out, boosting organisation, efficiency, and team capacity while developing genuine long-term talent. As their advice to other employers makes clear, the real value comes from treating an apprentice as an investment, not a quick fix.
