The Role

The Finance Apprentice will support the finance team in delivering bookkeeping, payroll and general accounting services to our clients, while completing a recognised apprenticeship qualification.

This role combines practical finance experience with administration, client communication and office support, giving the successful candidate exposure to every aspect of a modern accountancy practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients.
  • Support the preparation and processing of payroll.
  • Assist with VAT and general accounting tasks.
  • Request records and information from clients.
  • Speak confidently with clients by telephone, email and in person.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with clients.
  • Update practice management and accounting software.
  • Assist with document management and administration.
  • Support credit control activities.
  • Help manage incoming and outgoing post.
  • Assist with marketing activities, social media and business development initiatives.
  • Support colleagues across the practice during busy periods.
  • Carry out any other duties appropriate to the role.

Essential

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Confident speaking with people.

  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.

  • A basic understanding of AI and modern technology.

  • Good organisational skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) at Grade 4/C or above (where required for the apprenticeship).

Desirable

  • An interest in accountancy or finance.

  • Previous office or customer service experience.

  • Experience using cloud-based software.
