GCSE Results Day is more than a date on the calendar; it’s a milestone that can open doors you never even knew existed. On Thursday, 21 August 2025, thousands of students across England will collect the results that could shape their next steps, whether that’s sixth form, college, or stepping straight into the world of work.

At Access Industry, we believe results day isn’t just about grades, it’s about opportunities. Whether you’ve achieved exactly what you hoped for or something different, we’re here to help turn this moment into a launchpad for your future. From apprenticeships you can start straight after GCSEs to pathways that don’t require any formal qualifications, we offer real-world training, nationally recognised qualifications, and the skills that employers value most.

When is GCSE Results Day 2025?

GCSE Results Day in England is set for Thursday, 21 August 2025. If you are also awaiting your Level 2 or Level 1/2 VTQ results, you will receive them on or before this date. Your school or college will confirm how you will receive them, whether in person, by post, or via email, so make sure to check ahead of time to avoid any surprises.

What to Expect on the Day

The day itself often brings a mix of emotions, excitement, nerves, and relief all rolled into one. Results are usually ready from around 8:00 AM BST, though exact timings vary by school.

Collecting your results in person allows you to speak immediately to teachers or careers advisers who can offer valuable guidance on your next steps. Having a calm, supportive adult with you can make a big difference, especially if you are feeling uncertain about what the future holds.

After You’ve Got Your Results

Once you have your results in hand, the path forward depends on what they say, but remember, this is only the beginning. If you’ve exceeded your expectations, take time to celebrate your achievement and explore how your results could open up more advanced study or higher-level apprenticeships

If things haven’t gone the way you hoped, don’t panic. Careers advisers, your school, and the National Careers Service are there to help. You can consider appeals, resits, or alternative pathways like apprenticeships.

Apprenticeships After GCSEs

For many young people, apprenticeships offer an exciting alternative to traditional classroom learning. They combine earning a salary with developing practical skills and working towards recognised qualifications. At Access Industry, we provide:

Intermediate Apprenticeships (Level 2): Perfect for school leavers and usually completed within 12–18 months.

Advanced Apprenticeships (Level 3): These are equivalent to A-levels and can open the door to higher apprenticeships or even degree-level study.

Our apprenticeships cover industries such as digital media, creative arts, education, sports, and business administration, giving you the chance to start a career you’re truly passionate about.

Do You Need GCSEs for an Apprenticeship?

You can start an apprenticeship even without GCSEs. Many employers value your motivation, commitment, and willingness to learn just as much as formal qualifications.

If you’re aged 16 to 18 when you begin and don’t already have a suitable English qualification, you’ll need to achieve one during your apprenticeship. The same applies to Maths. Funding is available to help you work towards an approved Level 2 qualification if required.

What Are The Typical Entry Requirements?

  • Level 2 (Intermediate): Some employers accept applicants without GCSEs, as long as you’re prepared to work towards them while training.
  • Level 3 (Advanced) and above: Usually require GCSE passes (grades 4 or higher) in English and Maths before completion. Additional subject-specific requirements may apply depending on the industry.

What Are The Exceptions

Creative and trade-based roles sometimes prioritise practical skills and portfolios over exam results. Whether you have a few GCSEs, strong grades, or none at all, there are pathways available that can help you start your apprenticeship journey, progress to higher levels, and achieve long-term career goals.

Progression Pathways

  • Completing Level 2 can lead to Level 3.
  • Level 3 can open the door to Higher Apprenticeships (Level 4/5) or Degree Apprenticeships (Level 6/7).

No matter your starting point, strong grades, a few GCSEs, or none at all, there are routes into apprenticeships, with support to help you gain the qualifications you need and progress in your career.

Can I Do an Apprenticeship With No Maths and English GCSE?

Yes, it is possible to do an apprenticeship without a GCSE in Maths or English.

Many intermediate (Level 2) apprenticeships don’t require any formal qualifications, including GCSEs in English and maths.

If you don’t have the required GCSEs, you will likely need to complete functional skills qualifications in English and maths as part of your apprenticeship.
