There is no upper age limit for apprenticeships in the UK; anyone aged 16 or older can apply.

The minimum wage for an apprentice is £7.55 per hour, regardless of their age. You may also pay anyone over the age of 19 the £7.55 per hour rate. However, keep in mind that after 12 months, their wage must increase to the national minimum wage for their respective age.

To ensure compliance with wage regulations, we recommend paying at least the National Living Wage or the minimum wage for the employee’s age. Many employers also choose to offer a salary range in their job advertisements, as this can attract a diverse pool of candidates and help recruit the best possible future apprentices for the business.

This can vary depending on the qualification standard & how the training provider looks to deliver.

The Department of Education is currently considering reducing the minimum length of programs to 8 months. However, most apprenticeship qualifications currently require a minimum stay of 12 months. As you progress to higher levels of qualification, the duration tends to increase. Additionally, some qualifications have a longer endpoint assessment period, which typically lasts between 3 to 5 months, added on top of the minimum length of stay.

A Level 3 apprenticeship is typically considered equivalent to two A-Level passes. Also known as an Advanced Apprenticeship, it builds on foundational knowledge and skills, providing a pathway to more advanced qualifications.
